Chief Operating Officer, La Vie Hotels

 

With over 25 years of vast hospitality experience, Marcus Hanna joined La Vie Hotels & Resorts as Chief Operating Officer in October 2024. In his current position, Marcus leads the executive team of La Vie, overseeing day to day operations, with strategic focus to drive service quality and business performance throughout the portfolio.

Prior to joining La Vie Hotels & Resorts, Marcus was with Accor hotels for 20 years, his last role being, Vice President Operations Pacific, Sofitel, MGallery & Emblems, overseeing all of Accor’s luxury hotels in the Pacific, a total of 23 hotels.

Marcus began his journey in the hospitality industry at the Regent Hotel in Sydney (now the Four Seasons) as a Banquet waiter whilst studying Hospitality Management at Ryde Catering College in Sydney, NSW. He was concurrently pursuing a sporting career in rowing, where he was Australian Champion many times over and selected to represent the country on four occasions, twice at the World Championships.

In 1995 Marcus joined InterContinental Sydney, beginning his career in Food & Beverage before venturing abroad to InterContinental London, Malta and San Francisco as an Assistant Food & Beverage Manager and thereafter Director of Food & Beverage.

Marcus returned to Australia in September 2004 where he started with AccorHotels at Sofitel Melbourne on Collins as Food and Beverage Manager, before being promoted to Executive Assistant Manager. During this time, he oversaw a multi-million dollar renovation of the hotel, and also gained the opportunity to augment his portfolio with a dual position as the Project Manager for Sofitel on the opening of the Qantas First Class Lounges in Sydney and Melbourne.

In October 2007, Marcus was appointed General Manager for the opening of Pullman at Sydney Olympic Park – the first hotel of its kind in the Pacific, before subsequently transferring to Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach in a similar capacity. As a testament to his leadership, the hotel won the best Meetings & Conventions property at the Queensland Tourism Awards during his tenure at the Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach.

Marcus then moved to Sofitel Brisbane Central in June 2012. During his stint in Brisbane, the hotel was one of the host hotels for the 2014 G20 Summit. In addition, he also led the hotel to become a two-time winner as the “Best Deluxe hotel in Queensland”.

Marcus was then moved to Singapore and took charge for Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay, where he delivered record profit and guest satisfaction. In 2017 Marcus was promoted to General Manager Fairmont Singapore & Swissotel The Stamford, 2030 rooms, 13 restaurants & Bars and a convention centre. Transforming the complex through a $200 million refurbishment Marcus, then guided the complex successfully through COVID 19 and was promoted to Managing Director in May 2021.
